Golden Prairie is the premier grower of certified organic millet in the Rocky Mountain West and the largest national distributor of certified organic millet, selling in all 50 US states.

Our Story

Golden Prairie is owned by the Hediger family, a three-generational farm family that has been growing crops in Nunn, Colorado since 1989. In September of that year, they became one of the first certified organic farms in Colorado. Their concern about their young son’s exposure to farm chemicals led them in the direction of organic farming. As a farmer and mother, Jean’s attention to detail was the perfect match for the growing and marketing of organic millet.

As Golden Prairie grew, the Hedigers started working with many regional, family-run, organic farms. Today they work with over a dozen growers, incorporating more than 20,000 acres of organic gluten-free millet. They prioritize the use of best farm practices to assure a gluten-free product, from tractor to the gluten-free processing plant.

We believe in organic farming because as a group we have identified this as the most sustainable form of agriculture for present and future generations.

Gluten Free Grain

Our millet is certified gluten free and processed in a certified gluten free processing plant.

Water Wise Grain

The variety of millet we raise is proso millet, Panicum miliaceum. It requires the least amount of water of any grain crop.

American Grain

Our growing group is comprised of small, multi-generational family farms in the Rocky Mountain West.
